Dismantling Oppression
Create an anti-oppressive zone in Social Justice through a critical workshop. Students will dismantle oppression by recognizing the different forms of liberating one's self of oppression. During Freshmen Connection upcoming freshmen will participate in a workshop that will develop their critical knowledge of oppression. Hopefully, through the critical knowledge obtained students begin to value education and avoid being a part of the School to Prison Pipeline.
Journal Reflection
What was accomplished?
5.18.2012 Reflection:
The structure for my website is finalized. However, the essays I have made need adjustments and I plan to edit my essays in the weekend to finalize my essays part and begin to be fully focused on my conscientization part. I have established GearUP as my target organization to fulfill my goal.
My Outcome:
My goal is to create a workshop that will address the discipline structure and offer a restorative justice model at Social Justice High School. I will contact Ann to see if there is room for a change in the curriculum for freshmen connection. However, I am still in the process of envisioning the agenda of the workshop.
Challenges:
The question will begin with, what happens to students that do not attend freshmen connection. This will call for action with teachers to create conscientization of oppression in class. The conscientization of teachers would establish a language used in class that would be appropriate according to the intensive workshops students will be exposed to.
Further Steps:
To extend my action, I will create the agenda and structure for the workshop. The final step will be to propose Mrs. Farr with a suggestion of shift in priorities to Social Justice High School, it will be to create an anti-oppressive zone as an environment in our school.
